Four Generations Taught Me This About Your Heart

Papa Jacob & The Vine.

This is the final post in the Built to Last series on cardiovascular health. I want to close it differently than I’ve closed the others.

My grandfather — Jacob W. Paulk, Sr. — planted the first muscadine vines on this farm around 1970. He did so on the advice of an extension agent named Jay Edd Leger, who thought muscadines might be a good fit for South Georgia. My grandfather took that advice, put the vines in the ground, and tended them for decades.

Later in his life, Papa Jacob did something that impressed me as much as anything else he ever did. He changed his diet almost entirely — raw fruits and vegetables, minimal processed food, and, under his doctor’s supervision, eventually set aside virtually all his prescription medications. He made a smoothie every morning with his first iteration of muscadine supplements and whatever else he had on hand. You could find him riding the vineyard rows with that smoothie in his hand most mornings.

He was deliberate about it. Unhurried. Not dramatic. He just decided what he was going to tend, and he tended it.

That’s the thing about the long game. It doesn’t announce itself. You don’t see the results while they’re building. You just show up again the next morning, do the same small thing, and trust that faithfulness produces.

The vine doesn’t know it’s being faithful. It just grows because it’s been tended.

I think about that when I think about cardiovascular health. Your heart has been beating faithfully since before you were born. It doesn’t take days off or need encouragement to keep going. It just works. The question is whether you’re giving it what it needs to keep working well — not just this month, but for years.

That’s what this series has been about. Not a program you start and finish. A decision you make every morning about what you’re going to tend to.

Resveratrol
The Long Game
Found in skin and seed
Resveratrol doesn’t show up quickly. It’s studied for what it may support over time — the kind of investment that doesn’t announce itself in the moment but rewards patient, daily tending. The same kind Papa Jacob practiced every morning on this farm.

Purple Power is made from the skin of the Noble muscadine — the same variety my grandfather planted, grown by my father, Gary, and my son, Seth, on the same land in Irwin County, Georgia. Research on the Noble muscadine and cardiovascular health is real and growing. The sourcing is traceable to a specific family on a specific farm.

But the reason I’m still here, still doing this, has less to do with the research and more with watching an old man ride the vineyard rows with a smoothie in his hand and live well because he chose to tend what mattered.

That’s the model. That’s what Built to Last means.

The only way to miss what this builds is to stop before it has time to show.

Thank you for following this series. The habit is yours now. Tend it.

Midyear Check-In: Is Your Heart Health Routine Actually Working?

Purple Power cannister on a table

We’re into August now. More than halfway through the year.

For many, that’s a moment of quiet reckoning. The intentions you set in January are either part of your life by now or they’re not. You either built the routine or you didn’t. Most of us, if we’re honest, are somewhere in the middle — doing some things well, letting others slide, not entirely sure whether what we’re doing is making a difference.

Heart health tends to fall into the ‘I’ll get serious about this later’ category more than most. It’s easy to put off something that doesn’t announce itself loudly. So this week, instead of more research or sourcing stories, I want to ask three honest questions.

Three Questions Worth Asking Right Now

The first: are you doing anything consistently? Not perfectly — consistently. A habit that happens most mornings is worth far more than one that happens intensely for a week and then disappears. If the answer is no, that’s where to start. Pick one thing. Do it daily.

The second: do you know why you’re doing what you’re doing? Not the marketing version — the actual reason. If you’re taking something, do you know what’s in it, where it came from, and whether the research behind it applies to the product you’re holding? If you can’t answer that, the habit is built on a shaky foundation.

The third: is your body getting what it needs from what you’re eating and doing? Cardiovascular health is built on multiple inputs — sleep, movement, stress management, diet. Supplementation supports all of that. It doesn’t replace any of it. If the other inputs aren’t there, even the best supplement can only do so much.

Polyphenols: The Whole Story
Across the entire Noble grape
Most supplements pick one compound and sell it. Purple Power delivers the full natural plant story of the Noble muscadine skin — everything four generations of our family has been growing, in one daily scoop.

What a Simple Routine Actually Looks Like

If you answered no to the first question — or if your current routine doesn’t include any daily support for cardiovascular health — no judgment. Most people haven’t gotten there yet. Here’s what I’d suggest.

One scoop of Purple Power each morning. Add it to whatever you’re already doing — a smoothie, a glass of water, whatever fits. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be. It delivers the full natural plant compound profile of the Noble muscadine skin — grown on our farm in Irwin County, Georgia, by my father, Gary, and my son, Seth, and our crews, then processed by us. You’ve read the sourcing story. You’ve read what the research examined. This is the simplest way to put that to work every day.

The second half of the year is still yours. What you do with it starts tomorrow morning.

The Second Half

December comes whether you’re ready or not. The question isn’t whether time passes — it’s how you use it.

You don’t need a dramatic overhaul. You need one honest answer to those three questions and one consistent daily input to start building the foundation. Five months of that is enough to build something real.

Your heart has been working faithfully every day this year. It deserves the same from you for the rest of the year.

Why What We Grow Matters for Your Heart

Hands holding Noble muscadines.

I missed last week’s post. I was in Myrtle Beach for the Carolina Food Industry Council’s annual convention — meeting with grocery buyers to discuss our wine and fresh muscadines. I’ll come back to that in a moment, because something that came up in those conversations connects directly to what we’re discussing this month.

Most people who take a daily supplement have never considered where the ingredients actually come from.

Which farm. Which region. Which plant variety. How it was grown, processed, and turned into the thing in the bottle. That information rarely makes it onto a label — and most brands don’t volunteer it because they don’t know it themselves. They bought the ingredient from a supplier who bought it from a broker who sourced it from somewhere overseas, and the trail goes cold fast.

That’s not a knock on the industry. It’s just how most of it works. But it does matter — especially when the research behind a product was conducted on a specific variety from a specific source, and the product you’re buying may or may not reflect that.

Where Purple Power Actually Comes From

If you’ve ever looked at a supplement label and wondered whether what’s in the bottle aligns with the research behind it — that’s a fair question. Here’s the answer for ours.

Our Noble muscadines are grown at Paulk Vineyards in Irwin County, Georgia. My father, Gary, and my son, Seth, work this land alongside our farm crews. We’ve grown the Noble variety here for four generations — Jacob Paulk Sr. planted the first vines around 1970, and Seth is the fourth generation to tend them.

After harvest, we process the fruit ourselves. Purple Power is made from the Noble muscadine skins — dried and concentrated into a powder you can blend into a smoothie or mix with water each morning. From the vine to the canister, every step happens here. We know the soil. We know the variety. We know what goes in.

Traceability isn’t a marketing point. It’s what makes the research relevant. When published studies examine the Noble muscadine specifically, those findings speak directly to our fruit — grown from the same variety, on the same land, and processed the same way.

Anthocyanins
The Dark Side
Found in the Noble Muscadine grape skin
The dark color of the Noble muscadine skin is where these natural plant pigments live — and where Purple Power starts. These are the same natural plant compounds that researchers have examined for cardiovascular support, grown on our farm and processed by our team.

What the Grocery Buyers Were Asking About

Back to Myrtle Beach. The produce buyers we met at the CFIC convention were interested in many things — shelf placement, pricing, logistics. But what kept coming up, especially among the health-focused buyers, was the health benefits of fresh muscadines. Not just as a fruit, but as a functional food.

That’s a shift. For most of the history of fresh muscadine sales, the conversation has focused on flavor and seasonality. Now buyers want to know what the fruit actually does. That’s the market catching up to what research has been saying for years — and it’s a signal worth paying attention to.

The same fruit those buyers are asking about is what’s in Purple Power. We grow it fresh for the produce market. We process it into something you can take every morning. Same vine. Same farm. Same family.

You can’t tend what you don’t know. Knowing where your supplement comes from is the first step.

Why It Matters for Your Daily Habit

When you take Purple Power, you’re not hoping the ingredient matches the research. You’re taking the same part of the Noble muscadine that cardiovascular research has examined — grown on the same land by the same family and processed fresh from our farm.

The cost of not knowing is paying for something that may have nothing to do with the research you read. That’s a real risk with most supplements. It doesn’t have to be with this one.

One canister. Every morning. You know exactly where it came from.

Your Heart Works Every Single Day. Are You?

Purple Power cannister on a table

Your heart beats roughly 100,000 times a day. It doesn’t take weekends off. It doesn’t skip a beat because you got busy, forgot, or decided to start Monday.

Most of us know heart health matters. We’ve heard it from doctors, read it in articles, or maybe had a conversation that made us uncomfortable and then moved on. The problem isn’t awareness. It’s that heart health feels abstract until it isn’t — and by then, the conversation is harder.

July’s theme is Built to Last. Four weeks on cardiovascular health — what supports it, what the research shows, and what one daily habit actually looks like. This week is the foundation.

I get it — heart health is easy to push to later. Here’s what I know moves the needle.

Why the Heart Responds to Daily Habits

Cardiovascular health isn’t built in dramatic moments. It’s built in the ordinary ones — what you eat for breakfast, whether you move your body, how you manage stress, and what you give your heart to work with every day.

Research on natural plant compounds and cardiovascular support is among the most studied areas in functional nutrition. Natural plant compounds found in deeply colored fruits — including polyphenols — have been examined across multiple published trials for their potential to support healthy cardiovascular function. The Noble muscadine is one of the more concentrated natural sources of these compounds.

A clinical study by Mellen et al. specifically examined muscadine grape supplementation and cardiovascular markers in a study population and found meaningful results. That research was conducted on muscadine specifically — not a generic fruit extract — which matters when you’re deciding what to put in your body every morning.

Anthocyanins The Dark Side Found in the Noble grape skinThe deep color of the Noble muscadine isn’t just how it looks — it’s what’s packed inside the skin. These natural pigments are among the more studied plant compounds in cardiovascular research, and the Noble grape is a notable natural source of them.

Why Purple Power

Purple Power is our whole Noble muscadine skin powder — the entire fruit skin, concentrated into a form you can add to a smoothie, mix into water, or blend however works best for your morning.

We introduced it in the context of my morning smoothie a few weeks ago. The reason it’s the anchor product for July is straightforward: the skin of the Noble muscadine is where anthocyanins are highly concentrated — the same compounds that consistently appear in cardiovascular polyphenol research. If heart health is the goal for this month, the skin is the most relevant part of the fruit to put to work daily.

Four generations of our family have grown this vine in Irwin County, Georgia. We process it ourselves. Purple Power is what the Noble muscadine skin becomes when we do our job right.

Built to last doesn’t mean built in a day. It means tended faithfully, one morning at a time.

Start Before You Have To

The people who tend their cardiovascular health proactively don’t usually end up in the conversations that make everyone uncomfortable. That’s not a guarantee — nothing in health is — but the odds shift when you’re building something rather than waiting to catch up.

This month, we’ll cover the research, the sourcing story, a midyear check-in, and a personal close. But it all starts here: one daily habit, built around the whole Noble muscadine skin, taken consistently because your heart keeps working whether you are or not.

A heart that’s been tended faithfully keeps showing up for everything you want to do. That’s the goal. That’s what Built to Last means.

Aging Well Is a Choice You Make Every Day

Hands holding Noble muscadines.

Nobody drifts into aging well.

That’s the part the health industry doesn’t always say out loud. There’s a lot of talk about products and protocols, but not enough honest conversation about what’s behind the people who seem to age better than others. It’s not luck. It’s not genetics alone. It’s a series of small decisions, made consistently, over a long time.

Most of us know this. It’s just easier to think about it later.

The problem with later is that it becomes faster than you expect. And by then, you’re not building something — you’re playing catch-up on what you didn’t tend to.

Ellagitannins: The Seed’s Secret Found in the Noble grape seedMost of what makes our Seed Capsule worth taking is hiding inside the Noble grape seed itself — a natural compound your body converts and puts to work supporting overall cellular health. It’s what’s inside the inside.

What Tending Actually Looks Like

This month we’ve covered free radicals, antioxidant defense, the specific research behind the Noble muscadine, and why summer is a high-demand season for your body. This week I want to pull it all together into something simpler.

Aging well isn’t a dramatic intervention. It’s not a cleanse or a transformation program. It’s the accumulation of faithful daily inputs — sleep, movement, real food, stress managed as much as possible, and supplementation that does something.

The Noble muscadine seed contains natural plant compounds that research suggests may support overall cellular health over time. That’s not a flashy claim. It’s a quiet one. But quiet is what compounding looks like before it becomes visible.

My family has grown this vine for four generations on the same land in Irwin County, Georgia. What I’ve seen across those generations is that the things worth having — the soil, the vine, the health of the people who tend them — all respond the same way to the same input: consistent care, over time, without drama.

The vine doesn’t produce because it tries harder in one season. It produces because it was tended faithfully in all of them.

The Cost of Not Deciding

Here’s the thing about aging: it happens whether you’re intentional about it or not. The question isn’t whether time passes. It’s whether you show up for it.

People who drift through their forties and fifties without tending to the basics don’t usually notice until the gap becomes obvious — in energy, in resilience, and in how they feel getting out of bed. By then, the work is harder. Not impossible. Just harder.

One capsule every morning isn’t a magic solution. It’s a decision. A small one. But small decisions made daily are the only ones that actually change anything over time.

The Choice

Our Muscadine Seed Capsules are the simplest way to add the Noble muscadine’s natural plant compounds to your daily routine. Grown on our farm. Pressed by us. Four generations of tending this vine so you can take one capsule and know exactly where it came from.

That’s the close of June’s series. Not a dramatic finish — just an honest one. Aging well is a choice you make today, tomorrow, and the day after.

The people who make that choice consistently are the ones who feel capable and present at 60, 70, and beyond — not by luck but by faithfulness.
